One of the downsides of Fresnel lenses are the Flare artifacts. But a new Sony patent proves that they are ready to launch such lenses with a new tech that can suppress the flare issue
Good production values may not be noticed. Bad production values will be.

Check your link Karim. It's going to a site selling 7506 headphones.

I got to that same 7506 website, but then the second time I clicked on it, it took me to the actual website. I'm wondering if it was a VigLink issue.

The link is going to another site. I'll put the URL up and see if it does it again:

The article is not much, that drawing of a classic fresnel could not possibly be the Sony patent submission. I'm not sure why it was written.

Famously the Canon 400mm F/4 DO IS II is a fresnel design and works well.

I suspect we'll be seeing more interesting optical designs, likely not super telephoto using the technology.

I'll be curious to track optics this decade. There's been rather large advancements in the last 10 years that haven't extended into our industry just yet. We did indeed benefit from a lot of modern aspherical and apochromatic designs as well as glass material and coating tech. I suspect we'll see much more interesting things on the horizon.
