I've had these for about 2 months now and have been testing them.
If you're after my quick thoughts. First and foremost, the price is insane for what these are. Though the marketing literature doesn't reveal it, these are APO lenses and I knew that immediately when I put them up on my Monstro.
They are clearly designed to be as compact and high quality as possible, meaning low CA. However on the wides you will notice more distortion on the 25 and 35mm. Somewhat similar to compact zooms or vintage wide anamorphics if you want to think of it that way.
Flare is extremely corrected and barely there, which leaves rather clean and contrasty images. Which is nice and a somewhat fresh take on lenses in the entry level price point.
Also, extremely minimal breathing, which matches well with their recent zooms.
Thanks Phil for the report!
Are the scales swappable to have metric markings on the left side for example and imperial on the right instead of left side?
Does the infinity stops hard on the mark like proper cine lenses or the ring goes after infinity?
Were the marks accurate from the factory or you had to tune the lenses at Duclos?
Has Matt peeked inside? Are these service friendly? ;-P
Are these rigid and robust enough to support clamp on matt boxes and focus motors?
Are the focus rings smooth? Are these helicoid based or cam based?
How is ghosting? Some recent cheaper lens sets suffer a lot from ghosting due to poor internal AR coatings...
Thanks Phil!!!!!!!!!!![]()
Quick answers before I go to bed.
Yep, changeable mounts.
Yep, hard stops.
Marks are accurate on mine.
Nope, I've been keeping them a secret from Matthew until today when the embargo lifted. But I'm certain I'll be over there next week for a bit.
Yes, can indeed support a clamp on matte box.
Focus is nice and smooth. Likely helicoid.
No ghosting. These are APO and very corrected for various artifacts, which was a bit of a surprise at this price point.
My only quibble is the distortion on the wides, but this set is much more about being small than perfect in that way.

Phil Holland, thank you for sharing your initial thoughts. Do you consider these lenses preferable to the SLR magic APO Microprimes?

This year is likely a WOW. So much competition in this price range. A year ago you couldn't find anything in this price range even for s35 in PL - most likely it could be the old plastic sony primes, or used .CP2.
Now there's Laowa, Meike, DZO in a price of a DSLR prime. Wow.
Does anyone have these to rent yet? Looking for a 50mm and 75mm.
North West Camera Company in Seattle has a set of them to rent. I'm pretty sure they'll ship.
