Nobe Color and Nobe Scopes guy is in trouble. HDR grading is an attempt to mimic Basegrade, but it is a bit convoluted, grading using screen gestures lifted directly from Cinema Grade and Neural Engine keying is a direct copy from Flame. Said that, not too bad for free, I'll take it:)
Does anyone actually mind where they were inspired from?
Using the HDR grading and being able to adjust the DR ranges, has a lot of potential to help cameras with less even over/under exposure (like shadow-latitude-heavy REDs). Might be cool if manufacturers did presets/maps to maximize the DR spread. Would it be "more DR for free"? No. Would it be, "best starting point/maximizing the existing DR for the grade"? Yes.
I gotta watch it again...it seemed to get rid of the need for IPP2's tone map/highligh roll-off settings (as it does it much more accurately/customizable).
Not really, theft is the best form of flattery. Apple made a great business based on "inspiration" from Xerox. Said that, I'd like to see, for once, something new from BM, that hasn't been done before and done better. If you're going to copy something, then make a great copy, like in case of Apple, not an over complicated convoluted tools, that are difficult to use without a mouse. And $595 for the set of new plastic key caps for someone, who just spent $30k on a panel.
Several of my feature requests tended to and a smidge of Speedgrade coming into the mix. Pretty amazing update for the entire suite actually. Particularly cut and edit as well as audio. Bravo.
Except non of those "Moses sandals" are free like Resolve Studio now.
Says you:
"$295... but, hey... don't need to buy it if you're picking up a Studio license because we're throwing it in there.... *face palm*"
I'm not worried about FilmLight and Autodesk, but Time in Pixels just got devasted, it's a very small innovative company from Poland. i think this company is just one brilliant programmer and now this free-ish BM business model claims another victim. Cinema Grade is another tiny shop with programming talent hailing from Russia. Innovation comes from those small start ups, so this is a big loss for all of us.
It felt like I was giving coordinates to launch a missile to set up an IPP2 Resolve "Color Managed" workflow.
