    Apropos hands full
    Understatement

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Understatement is a form of speech in which a lesser expression is used than what would be expected. This is not to be confused with euphemism, where a polite phrase is used in place of a harsher or more offensive expression.
Understatement is a staple of humor in English-speaking cultures, especially in British humour. For example, in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, a suburban dinner party is invaded by Death, who wears a long black cloak and carries a scythe. He is the Grim Reaper; the party is over; the guests must all go with him. "Well," says one party guest, "that's cast rather a gloom over the evening, hasn't it?" In another scene, an Army officer has just lost his leg. When asked how he feels, he looks down at his bloody stump and responds, "Stings a bit."

    Notable historic examples

Event: The well-known Victorian critique of Cleopatra's behavior: "So unlike the home life of our own dear Queen!"
Event: Emperor Hirohito of Japan, discussing the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in his first radio broadcast (15 August 1945). Comment: "The war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan’s advantage."
Event: During the Kuala Lumpur to Perth leg of British Airways Flight 9 on 24 June 1982, volcanic ash causes all four engines of the Boeing 747 aircraft to fail. Although pressed for time as the aircraft rapidly lost altitude, Captain Eric Moody still managed to make an announcement to the passengers. Comment: "Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your Captain speaking. We have a small problem. All four engines have stopped. We are doing our damnedest to get them going again. I trust you are not in too much distress."
Event: A 2006 interview regarding current affairs in the Middle East with the Egyptian Foreign Minister. Comment by the Foreign Minister: "I think there's a problem between Shias and Sunnis". (BBC World Service, 23:50, Australian Eastern Standard Time, May 18, 2006)
Event: In 2008 RED introduced a revolutionary line of cameras. Comment by Firechief Jarred Land: "We kinda have our hands full right now..."

A few sayings spring to mind: "I" before "E", except after "C"; Form follows function; and now Acquisition before Exhibition. Red Ray is getting an UPGRAYYED! There's 6K cameras on the horizon.

RED RAY has been changed. It is now called RED RAY ALERT CINE COMMAND AND CONQUER (or RRACCC for short) and it is a modular system built of 100 parts which can play 4K, 2K, 1080P, 9K, 28K, 365K and ∞K depending on which model and brain you buy and in which state you live in.

∞K would probably destroy the earth and anything within a 1.21 light year radius.

Maybe Red Ray should use violet lasers or go to ultraviolet, x-ray, gamma rays! With the 617 coming out you never know. :)

    give them a break!!!!!!!!

They have come out with a lot of new ideas with this modular scarlet/epic stuff!!!!!!!

They probably now have to sit back and figure out where all this display/projector/Red Ray stuff will fit into the ecosystem with all the new 3k, 4.5k, 5k, 6k, 9k, and 28k stuff. And rightly so.

Let them sit on this one for a while.

I'm still hoping to see some news on the plans and specs for the updated REDRAY.

I realize that RED's definitely "got their hands full" :-) , but if REDRAY is going through changes, it would be cool to have the same opportunity to give feedback about the design during the early development phase.

I imagine it is probably getting a bit lower priority with all of the DSMC and Mysterium-X work going on, but this is a product that can be very useful RIGHT NOW for RED1 users.

Having the ability to play 4K clips off of a low cost device to a 1080p monitor on set would be HUGE. Let alone the other functionality you would get with it's feature set.
