Mati 8mm F1.2?

I found some old lenses that I had once-upon a time got at a thrift shop for a couple of dollars(US). They've been sitting in a glass cabinet for years! I was looking for my old incident footcandle light meter and just picked up one to play with it.. then I realized it had the following engraved on it: "MATI 8mm F1.2" ..uh.. wow.. seriously? The front glass is flawless. Rear.. needs cleaning. I haven't found much on the web about Mati lenses, wondered if anyone here has ever used one and could something like this one be modified for some sort of usefulness somewhere? :shifty:

I take some photos this weekend.. just in case it'll help jog someone's memory.

I didn´t find any references to a 1.2 8mm Mati, only 1.5. There was one on Ebay a while ago, which sold for very little money.

I love looking at old lenses, and with the IMS most of them can be used on the RED One. (If only that dang warranty issue could be resolved.)

Let us know how the lens performs.

Otherwise I am sure you know of the Pelang 8mm which can be had new for a couple of hundred dollars - might be cheaper than getting your lens cleaned. (But less fun.)

Came across some MATI lenses in Russia and Azerbaidjan. Old communist-era lenses which are good when you have a good one, but god help you if you have one made on the wrong side of lunch (spelled V-O-D-K-A). Without a thorough collimation and analysis, hard to know what you have.
