    Dear Sirs and Madams,

I am currently putting together my prospective package for a RED camera. My only issue is batteries. I have a massive and growing collection of NiCad and Lithium PAG s for my steadicam rig.

My first question is can I power the red straight off my rig? Is it voltage sensitive. On 12v 35mm jobs or video jobs with ringlights or gyros I often find myself using a few lithiums and a few Nicads but with Lithiums in the mix straight off the charger the voltage can go up to 18volts (instead of 12). I have seen a few steadicam setups on the net and having those extra batteries jutting out of the back seems silly as it spreads the weight out a little more than I would like and it adds weight to the top.

Can I power the Red from my Pags? How would I consolidate that with the Base Production Pack

Especially if I find myself using 2 Lithium Pags for the extra ampage for the body, remote follow focus and ringlight.

Is there a 4pin XLR 12v power cable available for the RED?

I power my red from my rig. I bought a few cables (PRO>RED, U2>RED, 4pin XLR>RED) from Wes at pana-tech.
Any good custom cable supplier can make them (Howard?)
I believe the voltage cut off of the camera is around 11.5v, so using 12v batteries will be close if there is servo kicking in.

I have used IDX/Tiffen, Anton Bauer and RED Li-Ions and in my experiance, they all start below 17v when under load..

    Thanks Anders,

Thats great. No voltage problems. Your right, underload, there is a big drop in voltage. I just always get nervous expecially with my sr2 with lots of Lithium batteries on.

When I am going handheld with the production kit can I run the red on PAGSs or will I have to build my own metal work?

I will be getting my RED soon and have a large collection of PAGs too. Am planning to use a PAG to V-mount adapter and see how well they work with RED.
