Monkey Extract and multiple volumes

I am testing the demo of Monkey Extract. What happens when your footage is on multiple volumes? I have my shots on 4 external drives and can't figure out how to make the Monkey look at them all at one time.

Also, the demo is rendering Tiff only.

Hi HDhead, yes you can use multiple volumes. What you do is create a root folder. Then in that folder, create aliases to the volumes you want Monkey Extract to scan.


This might be a new feature in the current alpha, so if it doesn't work for you please email craig at rubbermonkey.co.nz and he might send you the newest version.

Tiff only rendering was in the very first demo, but the last 3 versions have allowed dpx and quicktime rendering in the demo. What version are you using?

I just downloaded the demo today. The picture output in the settings was at DPX but it was creating TIFF files.

I tried the thing with the aliases before posting my question. It didn't work but it could also be due to the fact that the native camera directory structure has been altered by my client. I won't know until I restore the structure which will entail some manual labor.

the other way to do it is to put /Volumes/ in for the directory and monkey will search all volumes connected for r3d and index them

i shot a bunch of footage at 2K 120fps. when shooting at 120fps, the time of day timecode duplicates itself. i was shooting a live sports event, so many of the clips have timecode that is the same. i bought monkey extract yesterday, and it seems to have trouble dealing with this. i would have assumed that since the clip names are different, it would have known where to look to find the clips in my final cut sequence. i have exported an edl and am trying to get it to work, but it seems to be finding the wrong clips (maybe because those clips have the same timecode??).

any suggestions nigel?

Are you using short file names or long file names? The files can only be truly unique with the fill 16 characters.

in which case, you should use the Red16 template on the avid.com/red page when creating your EDL in Avid to be used with Monkey Extract. correct?

i exported the EDL from Final Cut Pro. Right now, I am trying to work a system whereby I make selects of this footage in FCP, then use Monkey Extract to export these clips as DNxHD (or DPX) to give to the AVID editor. For this attempt, I was simply trying to export ProRes clips of my timeline so I could take them back into FCP and do some work on them in Color myself.

I did a batch in Monkey, and the clips that it spat out were for the most part, not matching the clips on my timeline.

Now, my camera team were bad boys and created two drives with the A001 designation, but I figured Monkey Extract would be able to work around this issue, but maybe not??

Any help from the Monkey men would be appreciated....

If A001 is the only unique identifier, then no. It needs more than that. Even the 8 character format can still have duplicates.
