  1. #1 Is there a way to get the red codec for testing?
I'd really like to start testing my NLE to get a mock work flow going. It's great seeing all the posts conjecturing at how you're going to do it, and speculating on what can do it, etc. It seems like we're far enough along now, that we should have the test files to start actually trying things out.

Is this possible, or will it become possible before you start shipping? I'm going to have enough time learning the camera, that I'd really like to start the workflow process.

So, I guess I'm looking for a test file from red, and the codec? Or possibly if/when that would be available.

I believe if you buy a camera you'll get it in redcine :-)

And if you dont buy one, believe me there will be lots of footage out there on the web. As for getting your grubby hands on the codec, I believe RED has stated that it will be available for free.

I wouldnt count on getting the codec until the camera is shipping or much closer to shipping.

I'm using FCP. Will your RedCode only work with FCP6? Or will it work with the existing FCP 5.1? I'm also interested in getting my hands on the codec for testing.

Rob, I'd be looking at testing with Premiere on the PC, more to get an idea of performance and pipeline issues, hardware requirements & such.

QT codec should work with most QT supporting applications. Extra support for the codec will be in some 6.x version, not 5.

Rob, first I have to say great job guys !!

Is it possible to get some redraw files with Quicktime Ref (4K and 2K) for editing in Premiere Pro?
We are going to shoot a feature with the Red in august and I would like to figure out if our System can handle it...

    best

We are intersted in testing the REDCODE codec too. We use Final Cut Pro HD.
Is it possible to get it?

    Thank you.

I too am very interested to know how Red will work with Premier. It will be sometime before I get my hands on the camera and I am not setup to be a good tester of all this new tech so I will definitely be glued to the forums watching for the results.

Workflow is a very broad topic, I wonder if it would be justified to have a sub category strictly for editing the Red content/Post? Especially as the camera begins to ship and field test goes into overdrive :)

What do you guys plan on doing with the codec? I believe as things currently stand, there is only one non Final Cut workflow which is to use Red Cine to convert REDCODE RAW to a different codec.

It is my understanding that the REDCODE RAW quicktime codec will in theory be compatible with any application that supports quicktime. However, even Final Cut will not have realtime REDCODE RAW support when it ships so this leads me to believe there is a lot of additional tweaking going on with Final Cut to handle the real time demosaicing of REDCODE RAW.

    So I have two questions:

    1. Are my assumptions correct Rob?
    2. If they are, what purpose does anyone have right now to test REDCODE RAW workflow?

I mean hey, Id still like to get my hands on it for other purposes but work flow testing seems a bit premature.
