  1. #1 Help Wanted In Kabul Afghanistan
    Hi Everyone,
Not sure to post it here or in the ENG section. I am looking for the following two positions for a 3 to 4 month contract in Kabul. Would be great if the person spoke Dari (Persian) but must be english speaker.

    Position one:
DENG/SENG Engineer to help do final setup of the trucks and then provide mentoring/training to the local staff on the operation and maintenance of the equipment. Must have News and live event background and know all aspects of production vehicle operations.

    Position Two:
Cameraman - Experienced with news gathering and live event camera work with Sony EX1/355 and Sony PDW700 cameras. Will be mentor and teacher to local crews in not just camera work, composition, but also lighting for interviews, sound acquisition with external mixer, MW camera Back Setup and use, etc.

For both positions full travel, housing, meals, Health Care and security is included. We have a very good reputation in the country and our people are not bothered. We have been in business in Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban.

Down time is yours to use, we have vehicles and you would be assigned a driver and security when you go out. But a great opportunity to shoot in the areas around Kabul, up north in Mazar and Kundoz regions and the Panjer valley.

If interested PM me and I will send you my contact details to send your resume and give me info to see your reel.

We will be getting my Red One in Dec, which can be used by you when the camera and I are in country.

    Regards

Kabul is an amazing place. I lived there in 2003 and had the time of my life. I wish I was qualified for this, because I'd love to get back in country and do some shooting!

I highly recommend this to anyone with the right experience for the job. Security really is not the issue most people think it would be.

    Hi Tom
Your right, the security situation is not what you would think based on CNN's reporting. You do need to be careful, but the local people are fantastic, and some of the best times I've have had in the country are when out shooting, you draw quite a crowd and get asked a thousand questions. The best part is when the small kids come up and want to practice their English they learned in school. I always carry a bag of candy bars with me to give out to them, and have truly enjoyed the time over there.

Has anyone taken you up on this Ronald?

Larry, I've never shown you my afghan pics? I'll see if I can dig them up before you get out here to LA. :)

    Tom,
Quite a bit of interest, about 10 people have inquired and I am going to review resumes when I am back on the cape in 10 days and then do the interviews. It should be a good opportunity for the right person who likes to teach and loves a challenge. Plus the chance to shoot footage in a location not many people can.

Was off the boards for a week or so, have been slammed at work here in Kabul. Plus trying to sort out the last of the construction for the new ENG Vans.

Update to the POST - got some good camera people to interview. Still looking for a good engineer that knows VSAT and microwave delivery, van operations, Grass Valley Switcher, etc. to help setup the vans, test, and train the engineers that will run it long term.
