    Dear Lovely Red Chaps,

Just a quick request to see if it's possible that lense height distance etc will be like that on the Red so that we can keep using our Element Technica baseplates and also that there's mounting holes somewhere for the ET viewfinder mount (I know we'll need new topmounts).

Two quality bits of kit that I'd be sorry to have to part with!

    Regards

I second Jeff's request. It would be a drag If purchasers of ET accessories would have to start all over again.

I was just thinking about that. Maybe you could make so that the new EVF have so the "base mounting part" that it seems to have right now removable (to slim it a little). There after you just mount ET "slider part" on just as with the old EVF?

Don't know if it's possible, but removing the base that the new EVF seem to have takes away the DSLR shape of it and slims it for EVF mounting.

I see no reason why the ET EVF mount wouldn't work. It would just be a matter of attaching it's mounting clamp somewhere on the DSMC rig that makes sense. I'm hoping that there will be a new inexpensive piece to attach the "bomb" EVF to ET's EVF mount.

ET Arri base plates will work. They just need a simple adapter / shim plate. I'm thinking that the ET handheld rig will work too with minor modifications, but we don't know as they haven't started shipping the final version of it. All the other stuff like battery and drive mounts should all be fine...

Cheese stick handle and top handle extensions should be fine because Jim said that the current RED top handle will work with the DSMC, even though they are designing a new one. Top mounts and top ET cheese plate won't work the same way, but probably could still be used for spanning and building a mounting surface between rods.

I expect the ET base plate to work without any modification also. They're been set to align the Redone optical axis to industry standard for arri etc gear. Jim was talking about an adapter plate which goes on the bottom of the epic/scarlet to bring them into this alignment.

It would be great if as many 3rd party accessories worked where possible - things like base plates and EVF mounts can really add up when you're saving for a pricey upgrade. Obviously some things like top mounts just won't fit the the new dimensions but I think it's worth Red noting most Epics will be bought by Red One owners who don't want to add all their 3rd party accessories to the scrap heap after only a year or so...especially since most people will be trading in their Red Ones - they'll potentially just be left with an assortment of now-defunct ET accessories (I suppose there might be some kind of limited second hand market?)
