  1. #1 Brain SNAKE
    Another obvious one ...

since the sensor block/lens portion of the camera ("brain") is now separate from the IO & recording portion of the camera - it would be just fantastic to have modules that are merely "plates" that turn the proprietary connection between brain and the other modules into a SNAKE of cable(s) - so the brain could be mounted away from rest of the camera for crazy, extreme stuff ...

IMO this was the only point the SI-2K camera made - you can seperate the camera head up to 100 meters from the recording device via a single cable.

I think RED Rope sounds catchy for cabling but it's not as...macho. But yeah, a RED Head camera tethered via fiber optics would be snazzy for particular applications, especially underwater video filming. As far as a DSMC goes, it would be great to have a bunch of them mounted on tripods and then computer controlled for shooting.

yeah, I like that name Mark!

1.) Signal attenuation - the Red Bus (another new name? Where have we heard that before?) probably wasn't built to go meters, so it might make more sense, if you want to remote it, to translate it to a fibre cable of some sort, like fibre channel cards do - translate to something that can run long distances, convert it back at the far end...

2.) YES, this could have all kids of awesome applications, but would require different design implications to do so.

I was thinking the same thing... (and yes, SI was on top of this long ago, but indeed a good idea.)

    How bout this one too:

Make certain modules, such as the I/O module and Battery module, symmetrical and perfectly balanced (and add a second connection between modules), so that it can be turned upside down if you prefer your cables or batteries mounted from the other side.

I would think that DATA THROUGHPORT is the key factor in this request.

If the cable length does not affect the things then I am guessing this might be possible.

    Cheers Mark!

I could imagine a scenario where the brain (which is pretty small comparatively) stays attached to the lens but all the other bits (I/O module, battery module, and Redmote (which can be wireless anyway) could all be attached via extension cables - is that what you're talking about?
