Manually measuring for focus

As I've never used a tape measure for focus or used actual cine lenses, I'm curious if cine lenses have that much more fine markings than my Nikon lenses. For example, it seems at 6 to 10 feet out, it is a very short tweak with no corresponding marks on my lens. How do you trust anything to a tape measure?

Yes, cinema lense do have much more and more accurate distance markings. However it is pretty common for ACs to tape up a lens by actually measuring and marking the tape on the lens. Some times cinema lenses also are off or imporperly collimated and this is necessary. I plan on tape Marking all my Nikkors for more accurate pulls.

With digital I find that marking the ff using a monitor and focus assist works better than trusting the marks on the lens.

A FF can jump gears and then you are hooped. It is okay to mark a puck for each lense but the lense is far more important to have the distances marked on it first. Check the lense marks for focus if they are off stripe the lense and remark it with permanent distance marks.

Yes, it can jump and you will probably notice. I'm just saying you can't trust the lens marks with digital and for me I get better results when I am marking the ff and constantly monitoring. Do whatever works for you.
