For a while now we have been having this same problem over and over again.

When we turn on the camera, shoot with it, and turn it off again to, for example, change the battery and then turn it back on again we get the following problem:
    1. We turn off the camera to change the battery
    2. place the new battery
    3. wait for about 30 seconds and turn it back on
    (now the real problem occurs)
    4. the camera stalls on "Booting...", on the little LCD screen on the back of the camera, for about 1:20 min
    5. at 1:20 min the fan starts blowing wildly for about 25 seconds
    6. then after the fan goes wild the camera reboots itself and starts up in normal startup sequence.

Anybody had the same problem as this? Anybody has a solution for this? Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The gerbils that initiate the system check after a battery change take a minute to adjust (it sounds like a fan but they are actually running high speed on a fly wheel to adjust the inner connections to start the boot-up), I usually give them some treats during the start-up break through the feeding ports at the bottom of the camera.

Yes indeed the ghost in the machine is hard at work, or the Gerbals.

I just reboot the camera when I notice the boot is taking to long to get to it's second screen (the subsystem firmware screen) Sometimes it helps to pull the LCD and/or viewfinder cable out for the boot. It was pretty much gone in the beta of 17 but it's back in force now.

yeah, i already tried plugging everything out even the drive and the viewfinder and the LCD alltogether, but still no luck on this.

Anybody has a solution out there?

try to figure out if you can nail down if its the same battery that causes this, or use different batteryplates. hope this helps

well, i tried putting on different batteries, same problem repeating. i can't really try putting on different battery plates cuz we only have one here. so that's no option there.

does it happen when you power the cam through a socket?
if yes, the connection can be faulty on the body...or the powerboard makes some funky things.

Are you by any chance using Globalmediapro batteries?

Some of them have a wiring problem that might lead to a scenario as you describe.
