    Just an idea...

I haven't reserved any accessories yet because I'm still very undecided, I have a locked reservation that hopefully guarantees me what I want at delivery, and things are still being tweaked on a daily basis. I couldn't make it to NAB to check things out, but I'd really like the opportunity to sit down in a relaxed, quiet environment where I could play around with a few configurations and find out what works best for me. Afterall, although these accessories are inexpensive in industry standards, it's not exactly chickenfeed to a lot of us. I don't need a lot of time to decide what I like and I don't want to stand around drooling and mumbling nonsensical jibberish. Just need a few minutes to decide what works for me, write you guys a check, extend a Laurel and a Hardy handshake and split. Perhaps you could invite small groups of reservation holders inhouse for a quickie demo? Anything like that sound possible down the line?

    * Just realized I should have added "idea" to the end of the thread title. Didn't mean to get anybody overly excited.

i lobbied for a showroom earlier, but there was not much response. i'll put in out there again. it would be nice to be able to see the accessories. i don't even need to see a real camera, a dummy will do, because i know beyond the shadow of a doubt that i want the cameras, just not so clear on how to accessorize based on a bunch of photo renderings....

all in good time, i hope.

A showroom would be nice. I'm sure there will be such a thing at some point. What I'd really like to see is guys like Jarred, Gibby, Mike Curtis, hosting some RED Bootcamp events or something of that nature.

One good thing about us, Meryem... Our reservation #'s are a good big higher than others in the area. We should be able to check out the camera and some of the gear before our #'s come up. :)

    Planet E,
Yeah, there didn't seem to be a lot of interest. Sorry I didn't find your post first.
I feel the same way you do. The camera's a given. I'd just like to put a few different configurations in my hands to see what works for me. Although I have a sneaking suspicion I'd like it all and end up even more undecided.

Applied, A RED bootcamp is something I'm really looking forward to.

I'm really undecided on lenses to buy in particular . I've ordered the 300mm because a an f2.8 300m lens at that price is quite something. But until you actually get to test a variety of lenses on the camera what do you decide on for your own specific needs? Gibby has said that he will be doing some decisive lens tests when the first batch of cameras arrives which, I'm sure, will be very usefull. I still feel that you actually need to see exactly what you are getting with your own eyes before you make a final decision on glass. All lenses vary and even the same lenses by the same manufacturer can have different qualities. It would be very helpful to be able to fly to LA and make those decisions with a working setup. Any thoughts welcome.

good point, damonbots, i could get such a bad case of the "i wants" if i have all these lovely goodies in my paws, that i could end up spending even more than i am hoping to. slurp!

    that's a risk i'd have to take!

yeah, i'm hoping the colorado RED birthday party comes around soon...be fun to meet other RED-dites and to be in the aura of a real camera...woo woo. we need a secret handshake....

A sort of bootcamp was mentioned at a London users meeting too. This could work - even better if it was set up in a couple of cities around the world..

I have said before and been criticised for it, but to buy just on the strength of promises, however well intentioned, makes no business sense to me. Lens tests need to be carried out and published, and examples of the camera, lenses and other items made available somewhere to at least look at before purchase; ideally well before ordering both for RED's benefit and the customers. I do hope this has been thought about.

Certainly particularly regarding lenses my experience buying Super 16 lenses is that they do vary quite signifigantly and it was always important to at least project them to choose a good example. I wonder if this be possible?

    cheers

Sorry Jarred, if you guys continue this insane and improbable streak w/ the newly announced product lines (ie. 4k projectors,4k monitors, RED PPC)... "when things die down a little." will never happen. Enter the micro-cinema boom of 2008/2009.

    Hello James,

I don't know where your located, but if your near a major rental house some of them have through the lens projectors and most certinaly would have a PL mount for their unit. If you are buying lenses from RED, perhaps they would let you take your purchase out for a check up before you commit to any certain grouping. They seem like a friendly enough company! lol You would be expected to pay the rental/repair house for their time though.

    Chuck
