  1. #1 Shooting RED in India (Mumbai)
I plan on spending a few months in Mumbai (mid-february thru may).
Is there demand to shoot with the RED camera in Mumbai, Delhi, or Goa? I'd like to get some work while living in India and I'm debating whether or not to bring along my camera (or leave it here in the US and let it work itself on rentals).
I'll insure it and provide it for a competitive rate in India and bring along my laptop to show producers/editors how to navigate the post world.

Anybody shooting RED in India please let me know!

    Thanks,
    Doug

    Doug,

There is a fair bit of RED hype in Mumbai. Seems like the adoption rate will pick up. I am getting a fair bit of calls enquiring about the package. It takes a while for enquiries to convert to bookings, especially with the downturn.

But let me warn you it would be difficult getting a foot into the door. Unfortunately the Mumbai industry is not as open and tech savvy as LA/NYC/rest of USA.

    Best,
    Sandeep

Shot over there 2 years ago, all over India. We had to hire at least one 'Bollywood" crew member. Turned out to have absolutely no prior experience.

    Good Luck,

Doug, If you are in Mumbai ping me and we should get together. I'm over here as well and I just shot with a Red rented over here a couple weeks ago. Would have loved to have another option for a camera.

I'll have a couple other projects going so perhaps...

  7. #7 Anyone need one or two Red Camera kits
Doug - I hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread...
My Red Cameras just finished a two-month feature shoot in Kolkata, and it seems they may be heading back to India later this month (New Delhi/ Mumbai). If anyone is interested in renting some very complete camera kits, and other items (Panasonic monitors, etc) please contact me. The Brain - I just PMed you.

    Paul,

I have to say that my experience was good, but we have enough western talent on a set with 100+ that it may have been less of an issue.

I will say that it was not directly comparable to shooting with a good crew in NY, London or LA, but the crew I worked with was a decent lot. Keep in mind, Bollywood does more films in a year than any other market on the planet so there is without question some good talent in India. I think you may have had a rare bad experience.

Keep in mind, India isn't LA, London or New York, but if you keep things in proper perspective, shooting in India can be a rewarding, worthwhile experience.

I'd hate to color someone else's opinion before they get off the plane.

I'm planning to take my Red to New Delhi sometime this year. Can anyone offer advice for dealing with the RED and support gear at the airport in New Delhi? Any security restrictions or hassles to be aware of? Is there special insurance one can or should buy?
