  1. #1 RP Lenses
    Hello everyone!

We've decided to move from the videotape age and sell both of ours HDW-F900R and HDW-700A.

So far we haven't used any cine lenses so the transition must be as smooth as it can be, to get familiar w/ those we've just got a used Mini35 and the HVX200 should be a good learning tool. Now some lenses are needed.

Considering a set of conversion Zeiss ZF Set 25mm F2.8, = 35mm=20 F2.0, 50mm F1.4, 85mm F1.4 from RP Lenses, anyone here ever had hands on it?
After that we can move forward to Epic, or wherever, and some real cine lenses.

    Cheers, Happy New Year!!!

    Hi Mark

    Welcome to REDUSER!

IMHO you will want to get a set that includes something wider than a 25mm.

"Standard" expectations of set of primes would include an 18mm on top of the ones you have mentioned.

    Hej Mark,

There is a 21mm coming out in february i ordered. i have the 25,35,50macro,85, 100macro (on backorder)- and a tokina 11-16mm.

they (the ZF) are the nicest still lenses mechanically I could find, but I do think they breathe alot... but they seem sharp and they are like 6k usd for a whole set:)

    You are Danish=?

EDIT - P+S technik completely rehouse the lenses. Seem very nice. but adding focus gear and stepup rings is a must. - (that I myself have been stalling..)

Thanks a lot Dylan, would know any matching 18mm for the ZF set?

Thank you for helping me Sidney, please tell some more about that 21mm, who makes it?
I'll check for the P+S but that must be much more expensive than the RP ones.

My father is Danish, mom German and I was born in Toronto, what a mess!!!

21mm Zeiss Nikon ZF mount based on the old legendary Contax Zeiss 21mm.

I own one of this... Almost impossible to find now as well owners keep it :)

With all due respect, in my opinion selling your F900 to use an interim camera like the HVX200/mini35 with Zeiss ZF lenses until a new Red camera is released is a substantial downgrade!
Having shot with the F900R I can say that the 24p look is fantastic.
Zeiss Digiprimes or a great zoom with this camera still looks stellar compared to many other cameras. Record to HDCam tape for an instant backup, the camera has a great looking SD downconvert, dual SDI output, and is clean as hell compared to the grainy look of a mini35 into an HVX200.
I'll agree that the new red cameras sounds nice, but at this point in time you can't buy one.

Why not get used to shooting cinema style by renting a nice set of DigiPrimes for the F900?

I agree with that. There is nothing wrong with tape based acquisition. I use the F900, my two reds, hvx200. Whatever is best for the job and that is not always RED. Cine lenses are no different than video lenses. If you understand camera lenses you will not have a problem. If anything the cine primes will be easier.

But do not downgrade from a F900 to a HVX. Use the digi primes or rent a pro 35 and some Ultra Primes if you want to play with cine lenses.

We wouldn't make such a tremendous downgrade from HDCAM to HVX200, what I meant was that we already have a couple of HVX200 and would use one of them to get familiar w/ those cine lenses. Sorry if I haven't made myself clear enough.

Our plan is to perform a smooth transition and have the HDCAM gear sold after that, no rushes. It can take a year as we have somes jobs committed in HDCAM for the next 8 months.

The Digiprimes are a very expensive investment to be made having in mind that our HDWs are losing value day after day. I feel like crying when thinking that we've spent almost $100,000 buying the 900R and today's day you can get one for under $40k at eBay. Not to say about the 700A that worth no more than 15k these days 'cause 1080i can be gotten on $900 handycams today. And we even have a HDW-F500 w/ all options that can be found for less than $30K now, we’ve paid close over $65K on it back to 2006.

We're making a long term investment plan and have to make sure to be aiming on the right direction as there are a lot of new emerging technologies and ain’t no hard to make a wrong choice.
Thank you all for the tips!!

    Cheers!
