Problem with 2K-Adobe

Hi everybody,

We're using the adobe workflow fine, using a macbookpro.
We are fully updated, everyhtin works fine when working 4K files.

But, when using 2K files, we can't get the plugin to read our files @ quater rez. We change it in the dialog box, selecting for 2K the quarter resolution. Then, we do a restart of premiere Pro. But the files keep on being cropped as they are interpreted @ half rez!

Evrything acts as if us changing the resolution doesn't do anything in fact.

Did anyone else experience the same problem???

I didn't undestand what you want to do.
You don't need to play with the 4K-2K box.
If you footage is 4K and you wanto to preview it on 1k or another resolution, just use the Quarter option, save and restart the app. Your footage will be pewviewed as if it has 1024x512 (on a 2:1 aspect ratio). Just set the Preview windows to 100%zoom and start editing.
When it is finished, just set RED Plgin to the chosen output reaolutio, save, restart and when you open again the project will de "online" again.

No. We're trying to edit 2K footage @ quarter rez, but whatever we do, they are played @ half rez...

Until now, we had been working with 4K files, and everything worked... We could switch rez fine.

But the 2K files seam stuck in half rez mode. Weird...

Yes I am having exactly the same problem. The settings aren't being remembered when I restart Premiere if I change from 4K down to 2K, so it ends up cropping all of my footage. This is happening on both of our editing suites, and makes editing RED footage very difficult and unreliable.

We have PC's, both totally different configurations (but both using modern Intel's, one dual core and one quad core), and are using a fully updated CS4.

Would REALLY appreciate some help on this.

2k, 3k, and 4k all have independent settings in the R3D source settings dialog box. Are you sure that you have them all set properly.

Hi Mike, thanks for the response.

I believe I am following the process correctly, but perhaps I am missing something. I am only testing it with one 4K R3D file at a time, although I have tried a few).

My process was as follows:

1. Install the RED Adobe Plugin.

2. Create new project with 4K sequence.

3. Import 4K R3D file.

4. All video is showing up as 1K in the 4K preview window.

5. I change the Source Settings for the file to 4K High quality and restart Premiere.

6. Now the video appears correctly at 4K in the 4K timeline.

7. I create a 2K sequence and copy the 4K R3D clip from the 4K timeline (I have also tried dropping it on from the Project window).

8. I edit the source settings from 4K to 2K and restart Premiere.

9. Unfortunately the settings won't seem to take. The video is showing cropped in the 2K window and the Source Settings have gone back to 4K High. No combination of changing quality or resolution source settings will take affect even with full system reboots.

10. I uninstall the RED plugin in an attempt to return it to normal, but even doing that won't make the settings change. They are permanently stuck at 4K no matter what I do.

Am I doing something wrong? I have been working with computers and video and codecs and plugins for the better part of 15 years and I can't for the life of me figure out what step I am missing. This happens on both of the editing suites that I have.

I should note that I tried importing a 2K clip onto the 2K timeline and it worked properly, showing it in 2K resolution.

Also, the source settings only give me 2K, 3K and 4K as an option. What if I want to edit something in 1K after I have already started working at a higher resolution?

Does anyone have an answer for this? I am getting pretty desperate here... the RED footage is basically useless to me on this computer trying to edit it at 4K.

Do you really need 4K? If not, the FCS route might be an alternative.

I'm a Premiere guy, but more importantly, I'm a PC guy. I'd rather not have this minor bug (although it's major right now, but I'm sure there is a solution forthcoming) affect my platform choice, as I would be very unhappy to go back to a Mac.

And ultimately, if my souce is 4K, I would much rather preserve the integrity of that in the editing process for the day my movies need to be printed to film.
