I'm having trouble exporting a SAME AS SOURCE quicktime out of Media Composer 3.0 (Mac) in a 23.98/1080i project working with DNx36.

The situation is a little unique in that my source material is mostly Redcode but scattered with HDV shoot on a Canon HV30.

The HDV material was originally captured in FCP at 29.97, then reversed telecined to 23.98 and transcoded through compressor into the AIC codec.

From there I exported a batch list for each tape and converted the batch list to an ALE using Avid Log Exchange. Next I imported the ALE's into my Avid project and batch imported the AIC quicktimes at DNx36.

The Redcode was transcoded through RedRushes and batch imported into the Avid.

The footage works fine within the project but when I try to export a "same as source" quicktime Avid crashes around one of the HDV source clips. I started doing in smaller sections but over the course of a week or so the problem got worse and I wasn't able export the sequence at all. I'm also not able to do a video mixdown of the track.

I am able to export the sequence using any other codec without problems. And I also did a test with new DNx175 footage and the sequence exported without issue.

I'm using "same as source" because it's usually a time saver and I'm using the quicktime in Toast to burn Blu-Ray DVDs.

    Thanks for any help.

Is it a QuickTime reference or embedded movie?

It's an embedded movie. I should have also mentioned I occasionally get a "CodecManager Codec Error 36" error message.

I did a test last night and exported both types of media at DNx175 and it exports fine.

    Thanks.

Seems like if you are encoding in Toast that a reference movie would offer a faster workflow.
