I'm a dramatic guy, so it's rare that I do a commercial project that I'm really proud of. But this is a big exception. In November I spent a month on the road with a crew of 15 making a series of documentaries about Honda with Radical Media. I had the good fortune to be the Red Tech, 1st AC and Interrotron technician.

We shot over 30 interviews and countless re-enactment scenes in six different cities. Awesome crew, producers, dp, and director. First commercial I've done where the crew bonded like a feature. In any case, you can check out the docs here:

and there is a good article in the New York Times about the business side of the project below. It doesn't mention that because they shot on Red they could roll almost 10TB of 4K at a very low cost and finish with Crimson and Apple Color DPX conform.

Good times. They are gearing up to shoot more docs in February, I'm looking forward to being back with this crew.

    Nice.

Great stuff Ian, I do a ton of editing for pieces just like this. Last year I did a huge online marketing campaign for Acura Advance which this reminds me of. I just wish they could have shot RED!

Well done and inspirational, and it looked great!

Zeiss Superspeeds, I'll see if I can get the DP, to post about the lighting.

As far as the go kart rig. The I stripped down my Red to just the body, cf card, and lense and mounted the battery plate next to the camera. The rig was built out of speed rail by the key grip Mike Merdvilde. Before for we put the red on we tested it out with a DVX100. Here's a picture of the test:

Can't find any pics with the red :(

Looks very nice. I like the little insert shots of lights out of focus and the timelapse. Plus the go kart stuff looked cool.
