Maybe the code for the new version was written by drunk fraternity guys? The naked girl offers something of a clue.

I was under the impression that Redcine was software developed by Assimilate and ported out and re-branded RED as part of the RED/Scratch agreement. So is RED developing these Redcine updates or is Assimilate?

We have been in the beta world for too long, I don't see this as a serious upgrade and I will skip it. If the next Red build makes my version of Redcine obsolete, I guess I will have to go another way.

I have said this before... people will PAY $$$ for a fully vetted application that does what Redcine does, IF it is fully supported and full release.

Adding audio support to RC really makes a difference. The new release is running stable on my 8 core mac. We are using it to view dailies now, which we can do now with the audio support. Before we had to play back the proxy files to get audio, and I would jump into RC to show some quick color correction options. Now I can do it all in the one program. Great work guys.

    JFirestone -

I'd suggest using Clip Finder for that purpose. Much simpler, and you'd love the "watch folder" function for on-set viewing.

A friend of mine told me about Clip Finder a while back. I just downloaded it and I'll take a look. I still prefer the color correction tools in RC over RA, but the importing process into Final Cut looks a lot easier with Clip Finder. Thanks for the tip.

Redcine continues to work well on my PC system. I think it likes nVidia Quadro FX video cards. I'm getting audio just fine. In truth, I do love Redcine (minus the soft-porn illustration). But I do find it's now much slower to transcode to DNxHD than earlier versions. Would Redcine benefit from a quad-core processor? I'm dual-core right now.

I too reverted back. Older RC is stable for me.

I'm using the nVidia FX5600 in my mac. Think you're correct that it likes these cards.

I posted this under report bugs too. Figured it might get moer eyeballs here.

New to Redcine. Just playing with a few clips from Redrelay to learn a little about the workflow while awaiting Scarlet.

    Toshiba laptop: 2MHz Intel Core2 Duo 8750, 4GB ram, 256MB DDR2 ATI Radeon 3470, 2 x 200GB 5400rpm drives. Vista 64bit home premium. Redcine 3.1.8

Program loads and runs fine. Plays 4k clips at 1/4res medium at about 18fps. Plays 2k clips real time at the same setting. All picture controls work correctly and instantly. All menus and functions work fine with no crashes or hangups of any kind except for output rendering.

I have tried loading Jarred's 2k dragstrip clip from redrelay and encoding to output at native size with no changes using every format and filter combination available except QT, I only have the QT player not the full version. All produce garbled frames, noise and banding, color shift, no usable image. everything else about the program works just fine except the encoding.

    Any clues?

That's a clip from a pretty old firmware build. Did you try recent footage?
    Regards,

    Uli

My Red is called Vertov after a Russian avantgarde filmmaker, a pioneer in modern cinematography, a true revolutionary who later suffered under Stalin's bureaucracy.
