I am experiencing 10 to 15 seconds of audio static every once in awhile on the soundtrack of my RED files. It's like the sound you'd hear if you tuned a TV to an empty channel and it pins the meters in the red.

I didn't hear it while recording and it is a problem on all the RED files effected (R3D and QT proxies).

I was using a Sennheiser shotgun mic plugged into the camera.

It happened about four times in 2 hours of recording.

    Anybody else encountered this problem?

    Guess not.

Thought for awhile there that maybe I was lucky enough to get a bug free camera.

How long were the takes? Where you near any heavy RF sources? Like TV stations or Radar? I have heard some pretty bad noise that were sources outside of the gear I was using. Have you been able to reproduce this since?
Let Red know if you think it is a bug with the camera and we will do our best to track it down.

Just so people know the audio is in the R3D files and QT proxies access that the same source for all audio and visual are the R3D files.

    Hi Brian,

The interviews ran 10 to 15 minutes each and no, there was no interference in the area.
We went back and shot another 15 interviews yesterday and all were fine except for one which had no audio at all. The one before it was fine as was the one after it. No adjustments were made to the camera but there was no audio track at all.

Too bad there wasn't some kind of playback/EtoE audio monitoring like on other cameras I have owned. I guess it's a matter of checking every single interview before the talent leaves to make sure there is sound...a real pain.

And I'm getting green screen lasting 5-8 seconds but not at the same time as the audio problems in about every 4th interview.

    Bug city.....lots of fun.

There is something wrong with the camera, you should talk to your Bomb Squad Rep and get the camera looked at.

It sounds to me like a Word Clock issue... Kind of a very loud intermittent static sound alright... Might be a driver issue between the new audio card & latest firmware. :matrix:

I thought it might be a firmware upgrade issue too as I never experienced any of these problems with build 16.
