Filmout companies

Anyone out there have recent experience and/or recommendations for companies that would do filmouts. This would be a pretty low budget feature (about $300-400K). Possibly Avid workflow. Just trying to get a handle on what file format we would present to them, as well as grading (by them or us), and a budget.

You could start locally with places like Lab601 in Atlanta for online and color correction and they can work with labs for the filmout. My last feature was done at CineWorks in Miami for color grading and film out prep - they have both the digital and chemical knowledge under one room and is not too far away. They did a great job - make sure you have good communication with them and the colorist for all your deliverables.

If geography is not an issue, do a Google search, there are plenty of places that procide this service, and many of them are members of this forum.

So far, the best film out print from Red shot material I have seen was done recently at FOTOKEM in LA. Tom Vice, formerly at Plaster City is there now - they are currently Offhollywood's first choice for film record out.

Not sure about how they deal with RED footage, but I was very pleased with the folks over at www.DVFilm.com for a transfer we did from MiniDV to film. Professional, helpful, and inexpensive.

Recently we finished a feature from our Israeli partner Ido karilla, we print the zero copy (straight print with no color timing in the Lab) the director and the producer ware amazed that was exactly as they see it in Israel at editstudios...

We handle 2k and 4K jobs with our ARRIlaser and Lasergraphics film recorders and we work together with Kodak Cinelab's Greece for the chemical process and prints.

PlasterCITY does offer film-record services for Red projects. We have filmed out 5 feature films shot on Red through our Kodak partner, Laser Pacific and our color science accuracy between the DCP and 35mm is extremely accurate and fast. We have the ability to preview the print emulation during the DI grading, insuring clients are going to experience the same thing on a print that they would in a DCP.
Lower budget films can take advantage of a unique workflow at PlasterCITY where they can monitor boy the DCP and Film Record concurrently -saving money in the elimination of separate deliverable trim-passes.

btw, I want to thank everyone for their response. Even though most of these are the "usual suspects," it's nice to hear good feedback. fwiw, I also got good recs on Alpha Cine in Seattle. I had used them before for transfer, but wasn't aware they did film outs.

I had a few jobs filmed out at CineByte in Toronto and the results were great. They also have a nice Rec709 pipeline that some of my clients have loved. And the exchange rate is very favorable to US clients. Theres also Digital Film Central in Vancouver
