  1. #1 Flashing playback of proxies in Viewer
I searched on this topic but didn't find anything conclusive...

My proxy clips of 3K 29.97 (build 17 i believe) are flashing when I play them back in my source viewer window and on the outboard Kona display. When I frame forward quickly I can see it's actually a geometry shift happening every frame where it jumps from windowed to full squeeze each frame.

With clients in the room, it's really hard to explain this away and see the shots for what they are. I have worked with lots of Red footage and never seen this till now. Nothing about the system has changed. Any help is appreciated.

    Brandon.

What version of FCP and what system? Also, what's the codec used on your timeline? That could be the issue as well.

    FCP 6.0.5 & OS X 10.5.6. QT 7.6.

I just posted a job shot 4K @ 23.98 with no issues. This job is mostly 3K @ 29.97. It only appears in the viewer, not in the canvas or timeline so I don't think the sequence codec has anything to do with it, but the settings are 720 x 486 D1 @ 29.97 Uncompressed 10-bit. Video playback settings are the same. I tried 8 bit on the playback settings with no difference.

IF I disable the video output and work solely with the CPU monitor, it will not flash but then the clients can watch what I am doing. One work around is to put all my dailies on a timeline and pull selects from there but that is less than ideal in this situation. I am working with a Kona 3, perhaps the problem is with it. I am running Kona 3 drivers 6.0.2. <- the latest drivers.

99% of the time I work with 23.98 footage and I have no problems, this job is 29.97 and I see this issue but I can't say if they are related.
