  1. #1 Emergency! Help with RED DRIVE
I shot approximately 160 gigs on a 320 gig red drive.
Transferring to two G Raids via E sata (firmtek express card 34 card) through 1st generation MBpro. Red Drive is plugged in via FW 400.

I start xfer to one GRaid. 14 gigs into the transfer, my computer says a drive has been removed. Apparently, the G Raid I was xferring to lost connection. I power everything down, dismount all drives, reconnect everything, boot up and all drives appear.

But my RED drive says: 0 items. 141 gigs available. Nothing in the icon dock. Yet it shows 180 gigs have been used. So I'm assuming the data's still there.

The night before, I checked to see the first and last take on camera and the camera said 57% used. When I started the transfer this morning, everything was there until I re-booted. I've since checked it on two other computers - same thing.

Anyone have any ideas what to do.

As this has an important client's footage on this, time is of the essence. Please call me at 917 674-7861 or email me at: cinetim@mac.com

    Thanks

Tim, if you have not already, I would file a support ticket on www.red.com/support so our workflow tech support guy, Dan Duran, can assist.

EDIT: Haha, saw your ticket come through 3 seconds after I hit "submit"....

Sounds like you need to rebuild the directory on the RED-DRIVE. DiskWarrior?

When you get it fixed, don't forget to report back here with info on how you did it.

Did you try it on a PC and not just Apple computers?

Hopefully by now Red has given you some recovery options, anyway.

We tested it on several computers PC and Mac. Same problem then it just stopped mounting altogether and no spinning as well - dead mechanically and electronically. It has been shipped back.

Moral of the story: I don't think I'll be doing doc work on a RED drive anytime soon. Unfortunately CF cards aren't long enough. RED needs to develop a RAID 1 solution or at least a 64 gig card.

64 gig card will be the best solution.

RAID 1 may not have helped you if the controller is dead (which is what I'm guessing has happened here - the drives not spinning up doesn't mean the drives themselves are faulty.

RED RAM is your next step.

It sounds like a lost connection to the computer may have corrupted the filesystem. This can happen to other hard drives also but talk to support about your options.

Apparently there was a mechanical error with the RED drive. Red has recovered 120 of 160 gigs shot. Really sucks as it's an event that can never be re-staged. I also lost the subsequent one month shoot (guilt by association). I've sworn off using RED for doc or long run event work (or anything that can't be re-staged) until there's a reliable dual drive system (probably never). Never again.

I've completely stopped using the RED drive after this experience and have gone all CF (granted they can fail also). I hope one day they develop a dual CF module record or dual drive. This single media record system has me spooked.

Currently we were having dropped frame issues with our CF module and it is now in for repair. Nothing like a feature to expose a system.
