I hope people read this thread here, rather than in the Lens Tests...

I just installed the Birger mount, etc and have working lens data. But I've got a couple of minor concerns, and am wondering if others have seen this before.

First, I have a Canon 16-35mm 2.8L lens, as well as a cheap Canon 70-200mm 2.8-5.6. When I mount both of these, neither initializes automatically, instead I have to press and hold the middle button to initialize. Once the initialization has started, the focus range moves very quickly to one end of the range, but very slowly to the other end. It does this twice. It take approximately 15-20 seconds to initialize a lens. Both of my lenses do the same thing. I haven't personally tried with other lenses, but my camera went out on a job (with the mount) just last week. No one reported any problems... either they assumed it was "normal behaviour", or it performed as expected. I hope to try other lenses soon, but I found it odd that both of my lenses do the same thing.

Second, I have complete lens data for Iris, Focal Length, and Focal Distance. During the initialization, the Focal Distance updates as it moves through the focus range on the lens. Once the initialization is finished, and the lens returns to the mid-point, the focal length updates to the new position. However, any manual adjustment of focus after initialization does not update the lens data. Lens data updates for Aperture and Focal Length just fine.

Anyone have any experience with either of these issues?

Thanks, Erik! I'm an idiot... The guilt is mine for not completely reading this post when you first posted it, and again before I posted mine.

I wonder if my Mac Mini has bluetooth, or if I can run the Windows control app under Wine. :-/

I've got one floating around my office, waiting for just such an occasion. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it now that I need it. Fortunately, the Mac Mini does have BT... Bonus.

The first time you get that software talking is pretty cool. I was like "I can't f'n believe this is actually working". Like black magic or something. :-)

Got it working, upgraded firmware, confirmed everything works hunki-dori. Only issue is (and I'll blame this on the mac for now), the slightest physical touch of the camera causes the BlueTooth connection to drop. I have to, at least, wait a few minutes for both ends to recognize this before I can reconnect. At worst, I have to shutdown BT on the mac, and power-cycle the Birger before I can reconnect. Hoping the Impero doesn't suffer this fate.

I remember Eric saying that the Bluetooth "stack" on the mac was flakey. Actually, if you can run bluetooth under bootcamp from a windows PC it is better.

Imperio should not suffer that fate!
