Nice idea but I take it this is not certified by RED and will end your drive(s) warranty.

I'm confused...does this mean I can use my own eSATA drive to record to on the Red or is this just to download via eSATA from an existing Red drive?
And why would it kill a warranty?
Just caught this and posted it on my blog

I think it's just for downloading drives.
As far as warranty, only Red can say.
Yeah there's a ton of stuff out there 'not certified' by RED. The only item I've ever heard of that could void a warranty are the lens mounts and that's because you have to take apart the camera to use it. But even that got worked out, so.... boo on this thread for misleading title. That said, press release is a bit confusing but I can only assume it means you can transfer from the RED-DRIVE to your computer via eSATA and not that you can now connect any eSATA drive to the RED.

RED-Drive's (and all RED media) only have a 90-day warranty anyway. I would like to see some benchmarks comparing transfer speed between this solution and FW800.
That mean, You can backup data from RED DRIVE to a normal Esata Disk during shooting ? If yes how you tell RED DRIVE to backup to this normal Disk
I m also a little confused
About Time...
this is clearly for transferring footage from the drive after you have shot. not attaching anything to the Camera other than RED Drives'
