  1. #1 clip naming
I'm a script supervisor going to work to a movie we will shoot using a Red One.
I need some hints to help the editor's work.

First of all I think that could be a good idea if I write to the editor the name of each clip (for each take) instead of timecode. What do you think about?
Could anyone tell me how to display on the monitor the entire name of a clip including the two random numbers generated by the camera?

If it's not a good idea, is it better to use timecode or edgecode? We will shoot at 4k 25fps

    Thanks a lot!!

It seems you are repeating someone's the same question.
Why not use SMPTE timecoder? It can tell you all information you shoot in the site.

or use a clip shoot like movies did in the old days.

    Sorry for repeating the question.
Red uses two different timecodes: Timecode (TOD, sync to the clock of the camera) and Edgecode (starting to 1.00.00.00.00). They are both SMPTE timecodes. Wich is better for a feature film?
Don't you think it's better to use the clip name? I think it could be faster for the editor

I would use the clip name. That's what the editor will see on the hard drive, as well as in Final Cut or Avid. The timecode and edgecode will repeat over the course of the job. In theory, each and every clip will have a unique name.
    Cheers,

The camera writes the clip name on the rear LCD screen and in the UI.

    Its in the format

    A001_C001

We don't write out the full name which is in the format

    A001_C001_0503**

as you will already know the month and day and the ** is only needed if you get repeated clip names - due to media loader error.

As for timecode I'd suggest that Time Code is most useful as it obviously directly correlates to the time of day the clip was recorded and if you are using separate sound it lets you have a common reference.
