U rock Jarred!![]()
We love Vegas!
I do like V9 a lot. Much smoother and bug free than previous one was...
I just can't get over the fact that I'm editing, coloring & exporting my Red footage how I want to - without jumping through a dozen hoops to get there. It's been a LOOOONG time coming.
64bit has been rock solid. And in 32bit, using the Magic Bullet looks editor along with all the other CC tools is producing unbelievable results.
LOVE the editing ability of this trial version of Vegas 9.0, with the RED footage (just got done directing a couple of projects the past two weekends, and was asked to see if I could edit the footage - coincidentally about the day Sony released Vegas 9!)....
However, I can't render it to save my life now. Keeps saying nearly half way through a render (I've tried WMV, AVI, MOV) that system resources are unavailable, and that my memory is too low. When I go to begin rendering, it's using about 2GB of memory, with each of the cores (quad core processor) averaging around 25% usage .... I come back, and I see this error message, with the GB now reading at 6.2 usage, which is nuts!
I'm running a quad core Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz, with 4GB of ram, even though Windows XP 32bit only recognizes 3GB worth.
Not sure what to do from this point ... looks like my hands are locked, and not sure I want to purchase the software just yet, if I'm having problems with the demo on render.
Vegas works ok for me on a lowly Core2 Duo system. I don't fully understand all the ins and outs of the R3D decoding, but it works with no "show-stopping" problems thus far. Note: if you are trying to use Vegas, by all means stop over at the Sony Vegas forums also, there's a lot more Vegas info there than there is here.

i dont have Red, and never will, but just for kicks i downloaded some r3d file, set the project to 4K and dropped the footage on Vegas9 timeline I have 3 y/o HP laptop, underpowered and all, but the 4K footage played well up to the good/auto setting. Even after applying some curve, saturation and contrast i didnt notice any degradation in playback speed/quality. Then i applied Defocus and Glint and that of course did it. But these FX are heavy hitters, in the MB movie looks league. So yeah, Vegas didnt do well here on the playback, as expected thou. I ended up rendering these few sec out as mov file and WMV, all as 1080 24p and it also went well.
So basically if you dont use FX that seriously move pixels around then your playback is smooth.
Vegas has always had a very special place in my heart... I started out on Vegas back in the day, and they always have implemented new technologies very well ( remember 24pA? ).
To me it just works the way I like to work. The way they have supported the R3D format, specially on their first attempt, is pretty impressive.
The Vegas team has always been incredibly responsive to me the customer ( even when I was a young punk nobody) and it's something I will never forget.
