4.5k R3D editing works fine (limited to 4k project size).

I have noticed that each time I updated my Nvidia drivers, I got a different glitch. Once, I had a small # of footage go black randomly during playback like discussed above(all shot on older builds without new color science). I updated the video drivers and it went away, but it introduced a new glitch where playback would randomly flash a full 4k size in my 1k preview (which would sometimes show up in my 1080p renders). Again, this was on a small amount of footage with older builds.

There is something naturally intuitive about editing in Vegas. I have used the program since I purchased my Sony DCR-SR100 four years ago.

I have owned Adobe Premier for about the same amount of time, in fact the first promo Video I ever did was edited in APP as it offered some plugins that at the time that were not available in Vegas. I find with the release of Vegas 9.0c however that the gap is closing quickly.

For me, the work-flow in Vegas seems effortless, masking and color correction tasks are simple and straightforward and i find the 64Bit version smooth and powerful. True I am not shooting or compiling 4K footage on a REDONE but I have seen nothing to date with Vegas that would suggest that it would not be up to the task, other than higher system resources.

My Station is Basic compared many on this forum, I run the AMD Phenom II 965 Quadcore Black Edition Processor OC'd to 4.0 Ghz. The system has 6Gb of DDR 3 1600 Ram and I utilize a pair of Crossfired ATI HD5850 GPU's. I originally ran only one HD 5850, and Vegas worked seamlessly with that, the only reason for adding the extra card was for gaming purposes. My OP is Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit Edition.

Something that did suprise me however was the performance increase I discovered with faster drives. I originally had four 5400 WD 250gb drives that I used to download and raid footage onto, but around a year ago I upgraded those to four VelociRaptor 10,000 300gb drives, the increase in speed was evident immediately.

I enjoy Vegas a great deal, I will continue to learn AdobePP as I am sure I am doing the application a great injustice by not sticking with it, but for me Vegas is the path ..at least for now.

However, I can't render it to save my life now. Keeps saying nearly half way through a render (I've tried WMV, AVI, MOV) that system resources are unavailable, and that my memory is too low. When I go to begin rendering, it's using about 2GB of memory, with each of the cores (quad core processor) averaging around 25% usage .... I come back, and I see this error message, with the GB now reading at 6.2 usage, which is nuts!

I'm running a quad core Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz, with 4GB of ram, even though Windows XP 32bit only recognizes 3GB worth.

Not sure what to do from this point ... looks like my hands are locked, and not sure I want to purchase the software just yet, if I'm having problems with the demo on render.
Norm: I actually ran into a similar problem on the film I just completed. I kept trying to render out each reel of the film to .dpx and right around the 8000 frame mark, I would get the same memory error. Frustrating to say the least as it would take about 8-10 hours before the system would choke.

Nonetheless, the work around I ended up doing was to limit my renders to 7500 frame "chunks" and then doing a bulk file rename to get a contiguous frame sequence. A bit annoying, but considering I still managed to deliver all five reels to Efilm without a hitch essentially cost free, it's pretty cool.
