Hi Jarred, not that I'm asking you for Vegas product support (ok, I am...) have you played much with R3Ds in Vegas? Do you know how to render out a file smaller than 4096 pixels across and still maintain maximum quality out of the raw (eg. full debayer)? When I render R3D in Vegas out to a smallish format (eg 640 pixels across) it renders about 10 fps on my measly Core2 Duo (even with project at max quality) meaning it must be using a lower-resolution proxy, and the output looks like it too. When I ask for 4k still frame export, it takes several seconds per frame, and I get the quality I expect from the full process.

To me it just works the way I like to work. The way they have supported the R3D format, specially on their first attempt, is pretty impressive.
    Well said.

Yep. Used it since Sonic Foundry Vegas Video 2.0. Very slick and easy to use. Was very stoked(and surprised) when I got the email saing native RED support in Vegas 9. Now I HAVE to buy a Scarlet. Doh!:)

"the 4K footage played well up to the good/auto setting. Even after applying some curve, saturation and contrast i didnt notice any degradation in playback speed/quality"

Vegas playback defaults to "auto adjust size & quality for optimal playback" , so you might select GOOD -auto but it will switch to (guessing for a laptop) Preview auto ( 1/4) .. after you select the good -auto ..hit play and see if it changes to preview auto then when you hit STOP it will switch back to good auto ...
if you want to change this .. right click in the middle of the Vegas preveiw window and uncheck adjust size & quality ..

    donatello,
I thought i changed the playback settings just as you described.
I have a question though, can you render out 4K?

i have no codec installed at the moment that will render to 4k ...
    i haven't tried uncompressed ??

i see when i try to render out to HD.avi i can't because it uses cineform and it says no license so i'm beginning to think that the trial version doesn't let you use cineform and guessing when you get your V9 serial number based on the difference flavors of cineform it will only do 1920x1080 with Vegas unless you buy the cineform 4k software ( just guessing ??)

i do have a 4k to blu ray rendering at the moment ...
also haven't tried DPX etc ...

When I was a NAB, Douglas Spotted Eagle said VASST was looking into creating something similar to Gearshift to do R3D proxies.

Ok. So i have Vegas Pro 9.0c (Build895) 64-bit. Vegas recognizes R3D-files, but when i drag them into the timeline the preview window shows only black. With play or just positioning on a specific frame.

I don't know which build. Just downloaded a R3D file from Scarletuser for testing. Running on an i5 720 6gb ram with GT220 1gb videocard.

What am i not doing right?

That´s weird. Vegas is rock solid with R3ds, so far no other program handles R3ds so well. Drag in the timeline, edit, apply filters in 32bits and render. Easy.
