If I batch process shots in which either:

    a) the original .R3D files are on a networked server

    or

    b) or the output folder is on a networked server

REDrushes goes through the batch renders, says it only rendered one frame and hasn't created any files.

Is this a problem using networked drives? Or possibly a permissions thing?

This is a little strange. I have used a NAS as a source for transcoding using Red Rushes and not had any problems as long as I was not going back to NAS.

However in using the NAS as a destination I have had several problems. Red Rushes apparently assumes that if it tells the NAS to write a file, the NAS will write it. It does not seem to report errors (like not having permission to write to a particular part of the NAS), and in my experience it goes happily along transcoding for you to find out later that nothing got written and that there were no error messages.....

Solution to that one is to open the folder were you are writing the files and make sure that they start writing.

The other problem has to do with transcoded files (in QT) that are over 2GB transcoded. The NAS seems to stop writing at the 2GB point although Red Rushes appears to finish properly AND if you play the QT it appears to play correctly. But the duration will be short. I suspect that this is a problem with Red Rushes not properly checking with the NAS. Red Rushes (and OSX) is working 32bit and the NAS is 64bit. There seems to be a problem in the communication between the two.

Fortunately for me, I have an XRaid attached to the Mac and can transcode to it. The Mac does not have a problem writing files to the NAS even files much larger than 2GB. Although it is an extra step and additional time, this is my work around for the time being.

It's a Quicktime issue - it will not create files >2GB on a remote filesystem.

Joe, what filesytem is your NAS using?

Many Liunx based NAS use EXT2 which can have a 2GB file size limit

The NAS is using a 64bit Linux operating system. The system itself has no problem with files over 2GB. I can copy large files all day long from the MAC to the NAS. The problem only comes into play when using the NAS as a destination for Red Rushes. If I transcode to XRaid and then those files to the NAS, there is no problem. Trust me, I have files much, much larger than 2GB on the NAS.
