We're finding that, despite all settings telling us the camera is recording audio as 24 bit, the clips come into FCP as 32 bit? We're on build 17 and using R3D Data Manager to transfer from the CF cards. In fact, now that I think of it, the situation exists directly off the cards, so R3D isn't involved.

    Anyone with an answer?

Technically it's 24bit stored in 32bits and that's the way the QT wrappers expose the audio by default.

Why is this the case if FCP and Avid cannot handle 32bit audio?

Thanks Deenan. How can we set it to 24bit/24bit? It causes problems...

When you remake the QT wrappers in RR, set it to avid compatible audio in the menus.

Is there a workaround in FCP Log & Transfer?

Why do you say that? FCP has supported 32-bit audio when we first started integrating RED support. For Avid we've added the 24-bit mode as Deanan mentioned above.

FCP did not handle 24-bits properly, that's why the defaults for the QuickTime reference files is 32-bit.

In what way is this causing problems for you? 32-bit has worked fine with FCP for over a year now.

No workaround for L&T, but we have never come up with a situation
that required it. Through extensive testing we've not seen a problem.
