What I'd like to see is an easy way to record the contents of the matte box. If we do this and we are using /i lenses could we eliminate a paper camera report?

You could maybe put that info into the credits field. It's pretty hard for the camera to figure out what glass you put in front of your glass, but you can certainly include it in notes with a form of short hand in the credit info.
IE: OPTICAL INFO: 1/4 pro mist, 1/2 ND, Pola, etc.
Then it would be in the meta data. You could make it part of each shot setup.
