    Hi

I'd like to make a small plea for a way, soon, to render out uncompressed Avid 10bit quicktimes.... The Rocket is going to be fantastic for editorial but we, avid users, still need to stop struggling with the 185x DNxHD limit. If the rocket with the new Redtools can help here I will be double delighted!!

    regards

The new MetaFuze v2 when released as both 8 and 10 bit uncompressed formats in it.

...And, from the sound of it, the RED Rocket™™™™ should be giving the system uncompressed RGB files back from the bus, so then it's up to the software/CPU/GPU to encode to whatever it can. So, as long as you have the SDK to send the R3d's to the RED Rocket™™, what comes back will be a vanilla RGB stream. Does that sound about right Deenan?

Heh heh. Every time I edit and save, another set of tms. Cool!
    Cheers

    Hi Michael

That is fantastic for some workflows but without a pull capacity its not much use for me/many... Or have you sneaked in XML pull capacity ;-)?

Is it Red or Avid that needs nudged??

    kind regards

Yeah, it's all realtime...debayer, color, curve, colorspace, gammaspace, iso, etc.

so is this for Quantel, Mistika, Assimilate, etc?

no, because the API's are open to grab and integrate
into ALL workflows. Home Desktop and PRO. (mobile...coming)

Not unlike what Francis Ford Coppola predicted in the late 1980's

However, as I see it, the Big boys with big toys (i.e hardware, software patents, etc) should continue to thrive
if they drop gear/software costs and in return get more support subscribers
at near $30K USD a year, those boys will do just fine

thats my 1.4 cents USD adjusted for the recession
    Kind regards,

Certainly not, because what Deanan is referring to is the controls that are exposed by the SDK. These are basic RAW conversion parameters, not a toolset for creative grading. That requires separate control of low, midrange, and high values in all three color channels, secondary color isolations, area isolations with tracking capabilities, the ability to stack these corrections on multiple layers, the ability to change color spaces for different deliverable formats, the ability to integrate viewing LUTs for those different formats - do I need to go on? Saying that this board eliminates the need for grading tools and colorists to run them is like saying that Red cameras eliminate the need for lighting, filtration, and a director of photography. I hope you don't believe that to be the case ....

not what Im saying ... I said NO and that I suspect those companies will thrive.

but if the next rev of Color (theoretically) becomes more powerful with RR
CAVEAT: IF FCP 3 is what we all hope. (big if right now) then the democratization ) of post (talked about at Reduser VEgas is that much closer... that's all I am saying.

Competition is always a good thing

not trying to hijack this thread with a color argument either
but YES, colorists, not tools, create art, Agreed 100% i'm just saying
the hardware/software costs at the entry level is light years
from where it was when the Panasonic DVX 100 came out (the camera that
I believe began the democratization of cameras. i.e content acquisition)

at the end of the day it sounds like a killer tool to help artists at all levels create better and faster images and that's a good thing.

But as camera prices continue to drop as features improve dramatically... why cant we expect to see something similar in the high end post world?
    Kind regards,

Our intention is for REDrocket to enable faster R3D workflows from the high end on down and see it being highly complimentary to Assimilate, Quantel, etc. as well as FCP, Adobe, Vegas, etc.
