well they will almost certainly be useable but the new cameras have much higher data rates, like three times as high, so it remains to be seen what that will means as far as resolutions, frame rates and record times.
Also we don't know what the new data rates mean.
Even though they're not equivalent to literal bitrates anymore, because the numbers were higher (42+ vs. 28/36) we've been assuming that they were all higher than current data rates.
But for all we know 'new' RC225 on the Epics might be equivalent to 'old' RC36 and the data rates of the Scarlet might be much lower. I mean the Epics are the 'pro' cameras, closer in price to the Red One.
I don't know if this was answered somewhere else but it brings up the question as to what will we do with all the outdated Red accessories that we have -- I mean we get the credit for the Red One camera against an Epic, but we still have at least $15,000 of accessories that could potentially not work with the new camera.
Edit: Nvm... upon further reading I guess we'll be stuck the with them...
You can sell them to people keeping their R1s- like me 8)
I wouldn,t invest too much at a time into storage given any situation without knowing that in 2 years it will be twice as good.
I am very interested in the new storage that Red is developing.
HOPEfully solid state media bigger & cheaper than RAM.
There are VERY few accessories that won't work at all with the new DSMC's. The ET Breakout box is one....
This is the only thing holding me up from getting a couple Red-Rams. The latest round of tests seem to show them slower than the Red-Raids. For $4500, they better be compatible with the Epic.
I can't see the CF cards being able to handle Redcode 250.
