    Hello,

Im currently trying to build my purchase list for my dream RED set up, and i have hit a few road blocks so I figure this is the place for info. My main questions are what accessories do I need? I know the obvious ones like batteries and an evf/monitor. I am mainly asking about thinks like cheese plates, 15mm adaptors vs 19mm element technica add-ons vs RED add-ons. I know I need the Element Break out and EVF mount. Any ideas??????

It depends on what kinds of jobs you do and where you live. My camera is fully set up with Element Technica accessories and I find them to work perfectly. I would not consider sub-renting a camera that was set up with another accessory system unless there were no other options. Just my opinion. Other people like other things.

19 or 15mm ? Most of the Western coast of the USA and Vancouver is on 15mm, the rest of world seems to be using 19mm.

Thanks for the reply, I live and work in LA and would be using/renting the camera in the LA area. I don't plan on buying anything other then RED or Element, what specifically do you have, their top mount with the long cheese handle? The 15mm base plate? or do you use the RED plate? Did you buy the base production rail system from RED or did you pass and equip it all with Element?

If there are no budget restraints, I'd go ET -- if there are, there are some nice third-party solutions that work with some of the Red base production pack -- which I got only because I'm an early adopter and the ET and other stuff wasn't available yet. And now, since a lot of people have traded up, you can get a lot of the individual pieces of the base production pack and other things like handles, cheese plate, etc at bargain prices.

ALLSTAR is a great cheap alternative to Element Technica. Do NOT by the RED dovetail or you'll probably be trying to sell it on this forum in three months.
