I'm producing a low budget feature and would like to know where I can find a good sound guy. It'll be a nights/weekends project.

All I want is great experience and high end sound equipment--for free. hehe... just kidding... sort of. Hopefully there will be a small budget for sound rental (if needed) and/or for compensation.

What are the good sounds forums I might be able to find someone and also learn more about sound?

Just need someone to point me in the right direction.

    Thanks!

in "former times" there was a saying:

making a film you have to pay two people - Kodak and the Sound guy ;-)

For real. Anyone you would get to do sound for free is not going to do you much good...

Ditto that -- what's in it for them?-- a decent sound person can always find work -- if it's a great script and you're a great producer-director there might be something in it for the actors, maybe even a young DP who need something for a reel. Do everything you can to make a budget for the sound guy/gal -- and really you need somebody really good if they're going to mix and boom both. You will save whatever you have to pay many times over in money/time saved in post with good production sound --

Yeah, I get that guys. I was kidding. Now, some useful info please? For all I know, someone's low-ball rates might work out for our budget. But I need to get to this "someone". Thanks! :)

Have you tried posting an ad on Craigslist or Mandy.com? Where are you located?

Yeah...a location might be a good thing to share.

As a (mostly) sound guy, I agree: sound is one area where you definitely get what you pay for. That being said, in this economy, a lower budget could get you more than in the past.
