Hi guys. I'm wondering if anyone else has started their collection of Nikon lenses for the S35, or if this is not a good idea. Should I wait until the S35 is actually released? Is there any way I could get burned by jumping the gun and buying lenses?

I've shot Nikon for over 20 years but recently I sold my last 3 Nikon lenses, partly because they were not very good and one was an auto focus only push pull zoom so it would have been useless anyway. The other was a 30-70 slow zoom. Also useless.

So now I can start over and buy good lenses. Do you think the Nikon mount will be available right away or will I buy the S35 body and be sitting around for 2 months with a camera I can't use since I decided to buy the Nikon lenses before the camera and mount were available.

Also, where is a good place to buy Nikon lenses? Anything I should look for or avoid specifically? Or should I just wait like everyone else?

    20mm f2.8
    24mm f2.0
    35mm f1.4
    50m f1.4
    85mm f1.4
    135mm f2.0

Just sent them off to RPlens for their cinema conversion.

Need to add a nice 100mm macro and I'll have a nice complete set.

Nothing wrong with collecting some good Nikon glass.
It might make it easier to collect if you get a cheap D40 off of Craigslist (or even a D300/700). These cameras still work with the newer or the older manual glass. (although D40/60 uses the AF lens only in manual mode).

I also use my Nikon glass with my Sony EX1.

I've gotten a few good deals looking for used Nikon kits that come with the glass.

I figure I'll use my Nikon glass with the S35 until I justify the Red Primes.

    Zeiss ZF:

    21mm f/2.8
    28mm f/2
    35mm f/2
    50mm f/2 makro
    85mm f/1.4
    100mm f/2 makro

Get them from Duclos Lenses with the cine-mod, and you'll have the best Nikon mount set available.

why would I send all my lenses to be converted for cinema? wouldn't I just get a nikon mount for the S35 and I'm done?

The cinema conversion means de-clicking the iris and putting lens gears and an 80mm front on.

    Doesn't change the mount.

    Well worth it.

I have these (Duclos mod) and use the Nikon mount. Fantastic.

Got it. That makes perfect sense.

    Hi there,

Could anyone recommend a fast Nikon-mount zoom covering roughly 24-70mm? Ideally f2.8 or faster across the entire range. Searching eBay, I've found plenty of slow zooms. I've also found a Sigma 28-70 f2.8 AF lens but it has a minuscule focus throw so would be very tricky to manual focus with. There's also a Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 AF-S lens but it costs a lot!

I've got a decent set of Nikon primes and a Sigma 10-20mm f4 zoom lens but I'd like to add a fast zoom to my kit without spending a fortune. I was hoping to find a decent, old, manual-focus zoom but I haven't been able to find such a beast on eBay.

a bit like that, yes. but I'm after a 2nd hand lens, ideally made before autofocus was implemented (to keep the price down!)
