It looks cool! Do you think it could support the RED1?

27-5-09 After calculating prototyping and costs for the RR-1 we have desided to not produce it because of high cost of manufacturing that will take its price very high in a price range that you can get a reasonable steadicam device for your cam, as you can find loads of them in the market today and with very atractive features and prices. The good news is that the HR-1 which is a shoulder hand held rig is almost done and its close to production. We believe that this is a very usefull tool for hand held shooting offering many new ways to shoot your project in a very affordable price.Soon......

    Hello Miltos.
Apart of the red one do you have another camera with a 35mm adaptor to try it on with the hr-1? Thanks

I think this looks like an impressive unit. If the spring support doesnt interfere with the movement, and it can support the weight of the Red One, I'd be first in line. Can it be held and panned with one hand, leaving the other hand free to adjust focus? If not, could some sort of centered handle be devised?

How do you control which direction the camera will spin though? If you want to pan left to follow someone but the camera moves in a counter direction...wouldn't that be inhibiting a lot of the time? I can see it being useful for lots but then it can make operating more difficult? I love the idea.

    Hi,

I really see your point but where is the spring located?, I cant seem to see it. This is top notch progress. Have you tried jumps with it? How much will the spring handle? Steady arms can handle a lot but of course the weight and size makes those kinds of moves impossible. This is a really good direction. I'm very very excited to hear more... By loosing a parallelogram, you loose horizontal balance yea? wondering why you chose to abandon it? I suppose if you had sensors talking to your your tilt motor, you could really pull out some cool moves. Must have a really strong motor for red and not noisy too.

If i am passing through greece can i come and have a look? Will bring my red.

Ok have ur address. I was thinking back loaded springs were the way to go with these smaller cams and was working on it myself... But maybe you have saved me the time?

I don't think those dates fit with me at the moment... the 11th is earliest. Will email you for another suitable time?

In any case i will be keeping a sharp eye on this progress.

I will keep you updated for all tests that will take place with the red set up.
The HR-1tm works best withremote FFocus units so you dont have to worry about operating and FF pulling at the same time. But Because in the real world a lot of ops want to pull their own focus the way to do this either go with a remote ff unit and mound the controller on one handle , and control the pan action with the other handle. Now if you to place a cable driven FF unit it will has to be rooted so that it doesnt interfear with the pan action to a degree that you can rotate 270 degrees. That is possible also.
With the spring back mount its possible to operate one handed as long as the total rig is balanced close to CGs.
It takes a lot of explaining how to do this and I will procced to that when tests are completed with the red.
Please take a minute and send me an email at
Constantine@the-running-rig.com so I can keep you in line for all updates.
Thank you very much for your inerest on the HR-1tm Andrew.
