I was doing it wrong, trying to set them like 1 and 2. All's right with the world. As soon as I read "hold for three seconds" it dawned on me. Thanks to both of you. Brain freeze strikes again.

I'm putting the Straw Color, (+2 stops above 18%)--- on White (I'm saying the 85% white field, I'm using a Kodak Chart). Or just under 1 on my spot meter. 18% is within 1/3 stop tolerance(43 IRE). the Skin tone Color is 2/3 stop above 18% (Just as Stewart said). Thats also within Tolerance, 1/3 of a Stop, Not too shabby..

I did get different results when referencing 18% gray. It would have said sensitivity of sensor is around 160, thats why I referenced white instead.

I assumed the same for the purple color being pretty much Black.
Are you saying you get a different reading if you spot an 18% grey card than you do if you spot an 85% white card? The white is accurate but the grey is not? Obviously taking into account the different stop readings from the two. I mean difference in accuracy between camera and meter

    I 2nd this Please!

I just did some green screen work where I had to match existing plates. I had to figure out and resize my plates to live key them on set for the "A list actress" and director to match them.... If I did not have the Red look around on the preview it would have been much simpler and faster.

98% of the time I love the look around. Sometimes, I need a full frame 720p.

BTW it was an 86% decrease on the plates (add a mask) to get the correct size for on set comping.

Right, the difference of what False Color was reading vs the meter. My meter set at 320ASA was accurate to the stop on the Lens when I favored the Straw Color on White 85% rather than Pink color on skin tones or the Green Color on 18% gray. Basically it all seems within 1/3 stop tolerance, But Ive been doing a lot of tests today and I could easily say tolerance is between 1/3 - 1/2 stop.

looking good Stewart. Thanks again for helping me understand the curves for RAW Rec 709 and REDSPACE. Just for clarification, are we referring to electronic stops on the camera or optical stops from the lenses.
It changes every day, but is always the same: research for Equilibrium.
I believe that the Image, as the language of Cinema, is formed by the conflict and harmony of the two different elements of life: Light and Darkness.
Trying to find an Equilibrium between these two opposite forces as I visualize different stories, becomes — every day — the reason for my creative effort.
The research of this is my own life.

  7. #37 Birger Mount - iData is working! Plus audio codec error is really fixed!
I just updated to the 20.1.2 beta. Someone recently posted no iData in this build but perhaps it just needs another boot. After back shading I put on a Canon lens and had no iData. But, now, after another reboot, all my lenses are showing iData. I'll do more testing tomorrow, but so far it works with all my lenses. Also I want to thank the whole Red team for all they have done to make this the best build ever and especially for fixing the audio codec playback error. It was such a delight today being able to show my client the takes without seeing green clips and codec errors over and over.

It's our pleasure Mark, and we are working to get this to official release status a.s.a.p.

What firmware do you have in your Canon (Birger I assume) mount BTW?

Just for clarification, are we referring to electronic stops on the camera or optical stops from the lenses.
Either "optical" stops in the sense of lens aperture, or "electronic" stops in the sense of shutter speed.

But not "electrical stops" in the sense of monitor path IRE values.

That seems to have been a confusion for some people.

As we are representing a higher dynamic range image (what's in front of lens, and / or recorded to the .R3D file) by a lower one (what's displayable by the LCD / HD-SDI monitor) you have to be careful describing the characteristics of the former image by the latter one.
