3D Timelapse question

Is there any way to synchronize two RED Ones so that the timelapse frame capture happens at the same point in time?

In other words, if I am capturing at two frames per second, how do I get both cameras to capture the same two frames?

Yes, just connect two RED ONES via a standard USB cable (i.e flat end to your master camera, square end to your slave camera)

Then power cycle the cameras, when they come back up, whatever you do on the Master is reflected automatically on the Slave.

Just make sure that you only remote trigger the Master, and you will also need to format the media independently....

If there is fast motion, you should also provide each camera a Tri-Level Sync genlock signal.

eh, but just a thought. If the frame capture happened at different times consistently it could look pretty cool. :)

So you are saying the cameras maintain sync even when they are not running at standard project speeds such as 24, 25 and 30? What if both cameras run up to 100 fps could we expect they would maintain an exact sync?

Just to be clear, you mentioned remote triggering -
It is my plan to use the internal intervalometer on my camera at 1 frame per second.
If I have the "master" RED One menu set in this mode, will the slave RED One follow or does the master need the external trigger?

Although I am asking this question as preparation for a shoot later this year, your solution prompted another thought; is there a limit to how many slaves can be in a chain?

Good thought on the tri-level. Although this event is not fast motion, I'll plan on using my lockit boxes.

No need, if the Master is using Intervalometer, so will the Slave.

In theory, as long as you can solve the USB cabling issue, one Master with many Slaves should be O.K.

Explaining this is a bit complicated, but yes it is possible, you would have to do some tests to verify your setup.

I know of at least one 3D project running RED ONE at high frame rates using Genlock to maintain perfect sync.
