Just saw the film today and was blown away by the look and feel of your images. The visual effects felt seamless with your footage. Very very impressed. Great job! Hope to see more of your art soon.

Long time lurker, first time poster.
Can't hold my tongue here. I'm so excited.

Just saw District 9 at Grauman's Chinese in DLP this afternoon.
    Just stunning.

Congratulations on incredible work all around!
You guys should be very proud.

I thought it looked damn near perfect.
Everything flowed really well and footage and CG blended seamlessly, and it's a fantastic movie to boot.

I'll be seeing this one again.

It's so cool to once again see what's possible with this camera in the right hands - not that I needed convincing.

    Bravo.

Trent, did you guys do anything special in terms of keeping the dust out of the delicate spots? I'm guessing you had the unused ports plugged or taped. Did you run into any problems with dust getting into vents? Were lens changes always done in a less hostile environment? Did you employ any kind of weather cover?

Dust and fine particles can be such a nuisance even in normal conditions, so it's even more remarkable how well ACs do sometimes in the really challenging environments. Keeping dust off the OLPF, off the optics, etc. Sometimes it's a no win situation, but I have a lot of respect for the ones who minimize the impact.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

Benjamin - cheers. the objective here was to present the story events as 'feeling' as real as possible. I love pretty pictures as much as the next guy - in the right context. From the feedback we've been receiving so far it looks like people are feeling it...

Steve- Soweto is where technology goes to die. It was one of the most caustic environments imaginable & the RED cameras were bomb proof. We also had fantastic South African camera department that did an amazing job.

-Jim & the team at RED - thanks for making it possible.

More details to follow. I'm off to another D9 screening...

fantastic movie! Would have gone and seen it no matter what camera it was shot on because of the great premise, but I was really happy to see the RED logo in the end credits!

Just got back, it was great Trent. Awesome work! I have an odd question, but a reason for asking it. Did you use a canon HV20 or similar HDV camera as a crash cam?
