  1. #1 Red Drive power adapter.
Anyone know the specs on the red drive power adapter? We didn't get one with the drive and need to dump footage. Wondering if we could use the lacie power adapter.

Someone mentioned bus powered too, which should I use if we have to?

    Thanks

Bus power from firewire 400 or firewire 800 is no issue, just plug it in, give it some time and it'll come up on the desktop - most people only ever use the power adaptor if the firewire ports fail to give power.

Much safer than plugging in something potentially incompatible when you've got rushes on there...

Agreed...FW400 or 800 should be fine without the adapter. Why risk frying your drive?

Thanks a ton guys. That saves the day. I thought we were going to have to drive 2 hours back to get an adapter.

Red don't recommend using it without a power adaptor. I think this has led to many blown FW800 ports as a result.

This is a dumb question, but does anyone have a picture of the Red drive power adapter? I've been using bus power, but I recently read that using the power adapter is better. I have a bunch of adapters, but I'm trying to figure out which ones are for the Red drives

Much safer to use external power. Firwire 400 is particularly prone to burn out - even plugging it in at a slightly off angle is enough. Some people use a special adapter for firewire cables that do not pass any power (me included).

Has RED every made an official statement to not use bus power? I haven't seen one.
