    Hi all,

Ok so it is finally here, my first direction with a RED cam, coincidentally it is also my first attempt at directing a "real" videoclip, shooting was a breeze and now I am about to edit.

I just have a few questions for you Vegas+Red users, here it goes.

    - I can't seem to be able to drop the proxies onto the timeline, do I need a special plugin for that? My machine is quite strong and I can playback fine but down the road I fear that with all the colo correction ad adjustments that will follow my machine will eventually start to drag, with proxies I am sure it won't happen.

    - Would you suggest that I color correct through the metadata first or can I simply use Vegas native CC functions?

Any other tips that you think might be helpful for a newbie like me please feel free to share.

    Thanks,

    Phil

Try dopping the R3D directly onto the timeline instead of the proxy.

    Hi James,

I've tried that and it works just fine. It's just that I feel that down the road all the corrections will have a toll on my machine's performance.

I was under the impression that I could be able to edit through proxies, is there a way?

I'm editing a feature length film with all my 2d, 3d composites/mattes - some with as many as 3 and 4 video layers, & CC etc right on the timeline with native R3d files. Playback stutters at 1k & above only during the more intensely layered FX shots (when I need to preview a scene for flow or timing, I'll turn off certain layers/FX to regain real-time playback during these shots).

Color correction shouldn't be taxing at all with a half way decent setup. No reason whatsoever to edit with proxies, IMO. As far as CCing with Metadata, I'll dial in a matching "normal look" across all my shots using metadata first, then apply CC etc to taste afterwards over the entire project (tweaking individual shots where needed).

    Phil,
Apologies, I misread your question. Brian's got it right though.
Ram preview can come in handy for short bursts aswell.
