  1. #1 User Manual Release
With the first production units due to ship in just under three weeks will the user manual be available in electronic form, ie. PDF at the same time?

That would be extremely useful as it would allow all this speculation as to post work flow issues to be put to rest. No longer would there be any need for second guessing what is required and how long any approach might take. With just a second of footage and RedCine software, everyone could start to make informed and verified choices about their intended post process.

    exactly.

benchmarking and designing d-i./postproduction pipelines is an important part of any full-feature/series/doc production.

Will RED at anytime soon be working with third party vendors to make available redcine, redquick (i think that's the name). Curious becuase I'm using logging and archiving (library) software for my current digital media and HOPE that they will soon be able to incorporate RED footage as well. Would make life a lot easier NOT to have to wait for a new piece of software--the work would be enormous to move current library over to new software.

I think this is an untouched issue that will be HUGE for those of us shooting for our stock library and utilizing archiving software that is already available.

    Thanks for any news......

  7. #7 Useful?
Just having a manual does not mean it is useful? I hope it will be. The manual will most likely just cover the hardware, at first. But the true is, this camera is a piece of software. It's very hard to write a good manual for software that is still evolving and will be for quite some time.
I work with a combo piece of hardware/software that has been shipping for 2 years and the company still does not have a manual that covers the software (the hardware manual is only 28 pages). I can read the entire helpfile in about 5 minutes. But the product is extremely powerful and useful. Having a user group like this board will be of much more value than any user manual could be.

I hope Goodman gets a guide out on this camera pretty quick.
