Having dabbled in Red Alert and Red Cine, I'm preferring Red Cine at the moment. My workflow will be one light, then encode to DNxHD 175x for MC edit and finish on Bluray and SD downconvert to Digibeta.

I am running Redcine on a Mac Pro without Avid installed, and so I downloaded the Avid v2 Le Codec bundle. In Redcine's output options I only get the option of "Avid DNxHD Codec" and quality settings from minimum to maximum.
Red Alert gives me a list of all the possible codec types for HD eg "Avid 1080P DNx 175/185 10 Bit".
To cap it off, when I watch the Redcine "output" video tutorial, I see a list of Avid SD codecs, such as Avid DV, 1:1 etc.

So what do I need to do to have these options available in Redcine?
    Thanks for any help.

That has always been an issue with REDCINE when exporting to DNxHD, the inability to select a targeted DNxHD data rate. It used to be it defaulted to 175x so you may be in luck.

    Thanks for the reply Michael.
MC v3.05 identified the incoming movie created with the 'maximum' setting as DNXHD 185, so not 10 bit, which is a shame.
However when I try to import it into a 1080 25P project, Avid sees it as a Key clip with video fill and after a long import it displays as a black screen? Yet it plays back fine in Quicktime Player.
Any ideas what is causing this?

Hmmmm.... have you turned off alpha and other related settings in the import dialog box?

    Ahem.
You were right - turning off alpha channel settings fixed the problem.
    Thanks again.

You will notice that no matter what DNxHD "quality" setting you select in Redcine the Quicktime file size is always the same.

    Really?
    I'll have to try this...
As reported above, the 1080 25P footage I transcoded under 'max' was detected by avid as DNXHD 185.

Not yet - although I have 2 PC based MC suites, I also have a Mac Pro Dual Quad core loaded up with Redcine, Red Alert, clipfinder etc. I figured the Mac Pro would render a lot quicker and could be used as a virtual lab machine...Mind you, the only Pal monitoring I have ATM is using an SDI mojo to down-convert to SD. So not exactly ideal....

BTW I bought and enjoyed your book Noah - I will recommend it to my students in January when the new MA filmmaking intake arrives.

    You are indeed correct!
Even stranger is that Avid detects all of these files on import as DNXHD 185X, whereas it detected last week's output as DNXHD 185. I will have to try to understand what I did differently to make avid see the files as 10 bit...
