    Hey all,
used clipfinder and also redrocket to make or 4k clips 1080 for edit
now I need to punch in on a shot, make it tighter on talent.
went with afterfx to handle this but we do not get the same color on the shot!
setting used was rec709/ rec709 through all 3 processes. clipfinder and redrocket are same but the afterfx is quite cool/blue rather than warm tones.

    any thoughts?

    thanks
    dave

To my knowledge, After Effects does not use the new Build 20 Colour Science, I think that's what's causing the issue there.

What format are the clips being brought into AE? You mention converting to 1080, but it seems that you're loading this one shot as native R3D into AE.

After Effects defaults the color space processing for certain types of assets to linear light.

Sam is correct that the Adobe RED plug-in currently does not support the new color science matrix. That combined with it defaulting to linear light for REDCODE is probably the issue.

    Jeff,
file: 4K r3d file to AE used rec709/rec709 in the color settings.

went over to redcine since that also allows me to crop the shot but that dosen't have the color space attributes like the rest! can't pick redspace or rec 709.
    thanks for the info

    David,

In AE if you right-click on your clip and choose Interpret Foootage > Main... Then go to the Color Management tab. You'll see an "Interpret as Linear Light" with a drop-down list. Set this to off. You will typically need to do this for each R3D clip you import or will have to edit the proper config file to make this a global setting. This is independent of choosing REC709 color space.

If that doesn't sort the bulk of the color issue, then I don't know what's up in AE. The new color science isn't yet supported, but it shouldn't make that much difference or at least not enough to where it can't be corrected with general CC.
