what's the difference? can i obviate problems by resetting rather than just reformatting and does the format function in R3D manager reset as well?

Reset refers to the roll number stored in the camera of the last time it was formatted.

For example, say you format on camera roll A001. The camera will remember that and format the next roll A002 automatically when you just go to format. You would use the reset function to reset the internal counter back to A001, or up to A004.

You can also use the change menu to temporally change the number it was formatted. It wont affect the number in the cameras' internal counter.

R3D Data Manager has nothing to do with either of these functions. Since you dont format the Red Media on camera (having just done so with the software), it wont increment the camera's internal number. The camera isnt smart enough to remember what roll you were on, just what the last roll you formatted on that camera was. But since you set the roll number with R3D Data Manager, you shouldnt have to change or reset the roll number on camera (unless you decide to re-format on camera anyways).
