I am interested in picking up this zoom if anyone has one. I am also interested in the faster upgraded HR version but from what I understand is that optically they are very similar...can anyone chime in on this that has had experience with both?

Can someone inform me of the lineage of the angenieux telephoto zooms:
    I'm thinking:

    25-250 T3.9
    25-250 HP
    25-250 HR
    24-290mm Optimo

    Is it in that order?

I believe this is the order, could not source much info on the Angenieux website...anyone able to share a link on the pre optimo zooms or shed some light I would appreciate it.

There is actually a fifth version...the original (3.9) design, but with HEC multicoating, making it a T3.7. I own one, along with an original 3.9, two HPs , and sold an HR a while ago when I couldn't see hardly any optical difference between it and the HPs.

Thanks Larry... so now we have:

25-250 T3.9 (does this one have any letterings like hp, hr, hec ? )
    25-250 T3.7 HEC
    25-250 HP
    25-250 HR
    24-290mm Optimo

The Original 25-250 is marked only with the T stop...i.e. 3.9 or 3.7. The 3.9 is usually referred to as the "Old Style" 25-250mm. They made very few of the 3.7's, so they are rare and not a lot of people are aware of them.

There is no special name for that version. I believe Angenieux started naming the various versions starting with the HP.

Thanks for the info folks, does anyone have a link or any examples of what the HP + RED combo looks like? I like the HR but its steep in comparison to HP and I want to see how the optics compare.
