Wait, do you mean that the focus ring has the option of not being electronic, and would therefore have hard stops? That would be pretty great - I really like how on the Sony EX cameras you can have the focus ring coupled to the actual lens, and then you pull it back to put it in electronic mode. It's also heaps more responsive than any servo controlled ones I've used.

Based on the announcements and discussion here, I'm guessing there will be a new application from red to help us program configurations for button mappings, touch focus, all the touchscreen monitors, not to mention the wicked OLED display on the electronic lens and just about everything the brain is connected to.

I like the possibility of configuration (hopefully) done through XML files that you can quickly sync to the brain(s) on set via the network without much fuss or rebooting. (So shooters can have their own button setups and take them from camera to camera, project to project). If configurations are/were XML (Like REDCINE_X uses for looks), us developers could easily write programs that provide alternate management interfaces for specific aspects of operation, like focus control, button mapping or monitor configuration.

Also, I'm expecting a realtime API of some sort, for bidirectional telemetry and fly by wire from non-traditional remote interfaces... like zoom/focus control using motion tracking on an iTouch? (not that I think its precise enough, but you get the point). Am I way off here?

Seeing how much effort Red is putting into Doing It Right(tm), can I guess that you'll announce a date for APIs to be made available for developers, or a new developer program beyond the API for REDCODE RAW?

Fair enough. If one wants all manual, there's always the other 2/3" Scarlet.

Coming from the HPX171 & HPX301 side of things, the 2/3 scarlet with fly by wire and lm sure loads of additional features sounds fantaaaaastic and looks even better as l always hoped a great camera like this combined with the Red raw codec will be a game changer, a killer combination. For guys like me in the corporate world this is the type of camera combined with the S35 is my dream combination... thanks for posting the photo Jarred this gives us scarleteers so much heart.

Sony and Panni over the years although producing great cameras have been restrictive and never thought outside the box and just given what was necessary no more no less, Red has changed all of that forever

Here is a request PLEASE for us who so want to move over to scarlet asap once in production. Would it be possible to make available footage shot by the red team for us to up load and test through our edit systems. This would be such a help so when we get the camera we can hit the ground running. Just normal shots would be great eg. landscapes, people, street scenes this honestly would be a huge bonus to us. A very big ask but just hoping.

I second that "red-itable" (ya i went there) scarlet footage would help a lot in terms of making sure my editing suite is ready to go. 3K footage is certainly going to be strenuous on some systems, although proxies etc. should facilitate that.

Brad, gotta think Red Rocket rather than proxies. Just like Google, it's your friend.
